Medical Weight Loss Program

The “Celebrate-Path to Success” medical weight loss program was developed by physicians, registered dietitians, and health professionals to help you control your carbohydrate and caloric intake while eating the precise amount of protein to build and preserve muscle mass. Everything we do is evidence-based to promote a successful lifestyle change that is sustainable.

What?

Our medical weight loss program is based on a 3-phase system that gives you the flexibility to choose from four meal plans.

This 12 week program is designed to provide rapid, safe, and sustainable weight loss, followed by a maintenance plan tailored to meet your individual lifestyle needs. Participants have one-on-one sessions with a Registered Dietician. We believe a clear and compassionate understanding of each patient’s unique profile enables us to individualize their weight-loss program in a way that maximizes their chances for success.

How?

This program was developed to provide fast, sustainable weight loss while utilizing meal replacement shakes, protein snacks, and well-balanced meals. With the belief that education is the key to long-term success, you will receive weekly educations in nutrition to learn how to get healthy from the inside out, fitness to learn how to lose fat while gaining muscle, and behavior to learn how to choose your health, this day, and every day

Why?

By utilizing meal replacement shakes, protein snacks, and well-balanced meals, the “path to success” medical weight loss program is based on moderation rather than severe depletion, which helps you achieve lifelong success.

Goals:

  1. Improve Patient Health:

Although weight loss is a primary focus, it is also important that the diet you choose is also one that will improve your health and decrease your risk for preventable diseases.

  1. Improve Quality of Life:

This program is also aimed at helping patients develop a healthier relationship with food.

  1. Improve Body Weight and Body Composition:

The third goal is to improve the patient’s body composition. That is, to help preserve lean muscle while losing body fat.

Nutrition Counseling

What can a Registered Dietitian do for you?

The important role nutrition plays in managing certain diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol,
and obesity can be a critical component to the successful treatment of these diseases. However,
providing patients with the nutritional components of care necessary to manage such conditions can be
a timely task for physicians. The dietitian possesses the knowledge and training necessary to help
patients develop appropriate eating patterns to improve the outcome of a medical condition.

What can you expect when you see The Dietitian?

At the initial visit, registered dietitian, Linda Kapusniak will obtain a complete diet history, as well as an evaluation of current behavior patterns associated with eating to determine the appropriate nutrition approach.

How often will I need to see the Dietitian?

Generally, most dietary concerns can be managed in 2-3 visits. The initial visit is to obtain information and make nutritional recommendations. The second visit is to evaluate progress and make adjustments. The third visit is to evaluate compliance. Additional visits may be required for more complicated cases.

Do I need to be a patient of the Brazos Valley Women’s Center?

Body Weight During Pregnancy

Women who begin their pregnancy at a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25 need to pay close attention to their diet during pregnancy. They need to ensure that they get the right nutrients with the right calories so that they can achieve the best pregnancy outcome. A nutrition consultation with our dietitian will help ensure you meet those goals. That in turn will reduce your risk of complications such as:

• Gestational Diabetes (high sugar)
• Hypertension and Pre-Eclampsia (high blood pressure and other problems)
• Cesarean delivery
• Postpartum weight retention

Managing your weight during pregnancy will also decrease your baby’s risk of:

• Premature birth
• Congenital anomalies (malformation of body parts)
• Birth injuries (due to large size)
• Childhood obesity

Women who begin their pregnancy with a BMI below 19 are at increased risk of:
